About Ryan McCann

With nearly two decades of experience in real estate, many record-breaking sales and dozens of awards to his name, Ryan McCann’s skill as a negotiator and marketer is clear – as is his passion for property.

Leadership and motivating teams come naturally to him. He attributes this quality to playing competitive sport at school and captaining teams.

When he’s not out selling and building the business, Ryan McCann enjoys mentoring rookie real estate agents, including his Executive Sales Assistant at First National Real Estate Cleveland, Billy Gray.

Ryan also regularly hosts real estate training sessions and is a keynote speaker at industry events.

Throughout his real estate career, Ryan McCann has had long stints working for both big names and boutique agencies, building up his knowledge and experience (and contact book) at every stage.

Ryan McCann: career timeline

2017

2017 – First National Real Estate Cleveland Co-Director

“My business partner Cherelle Taylor and I started up First National in June 2015, and we’ve been kicking big goals ever since. Now we’re the fastest-growing real estate agency in Redlands. All credit to Cherelle …Without her, none of this would have been possible. She sourced the First National brand and approached me. I’m forever in debt to her because we’ve turned First National Real Estate Cleveland into a wonderful business. Everyone in our team takes great pride in the area and we have the best-trained agents in the region. Our goal is to initiate and continue repeat business – that’s always been my goal actually. 92% of my sales come from repeat or referred business.” - Ryan McCann
2007

2007 – LJ Hooker Cleveland

Ryan McCann spent nearly seven years as a real estate agent at LJ Hooker, honing his skills at the Cleveland office of the brand and piecing together an impressive sales portfolio. During this time, Ryan made repeat business his priority and focused on his relationship-building skills – breaking sales records in the process and collecting industry awards. Ryan received the following awards:
  • Twice awarded runner up for Marketer of the Year in QLD.
  • Lifetime membership to the Captains Club (LJ Hooker's national elite sales team). Currently, only 60 agents have received this award.
  • 5 international medals during his 6.5 years at LJ Hooker.
He was also requested by the LJ Hooker head office to appear in many training programs and as guest speaker for real estate training of agents within the group.

1999 – Cleveland Real Estate Agencies

In 1999, Ryan McCann went to work for his father’s independent real estate agency in Cleveland, where he learned a huge amount about the business and certainly didn’t receive any special treatment. According to Ryan, his dad was a hard taskmaster – tough but fair. Ryan says: “Prior to this, I worked against my dad for another agency. The first time I thought, “Yeah, I might be good at my job” was when Dad approached me for a game of pool and a beer. He asked me to become one of his salespeople, and I stayed for nearly eight years.”
1998

1998 – Ray White Capalaba

Three years out of school, Ryan McCann joined Ray White Capalaba as a rookie real estate agent. He still remembers his first day on the job, when he was sent door-knocking in the area. Ryan, a very green 20-year-old, thought he’d start at the high-end $700,000 properties. One lady looked him up and down and said ‘No way you’re selling my house’. Undeterred, he bowled up to an old fibro shack and was attacked by a cattle dog. After scaling a 5ft fence to get away, Ryan McCann returned to the office covered in mud and cuts. His boss looked at him and said: ‘So you’ve been knocking, have you?’
1988

1988 – Ormiston College, Redland City

From years 5-12, Ryan McCann attended Ormiston College, where he excelled as an athlete. Ryan was captain of the rugby 1st XV, soccer and athletic teams – an intimidating experience that helped him develop leadership skills and a strong drive to succeed. Ryan says: ‘I realised from a very early age that the responsibility of captaining sporting teams had the ability to make someone’s day. The encouragement you could give your team and the way they look at you to lead from the front. That was the best things I got out of my school years.’
